Shahana now learns to sit...

At 5 months old, Shahana is already quite a handful! Now she is learning to sit on her own and also turn over while lying down. And her vocabulary has increased manifold......from the "angaa" and "agooo", she has graduated to "tatataatatatatata" "nininininininini" "mumumum", etc.

And yes, she is now very aware that everyone is pampering her and she knows how to make the most of it...and to top it all she also knows just when to use those "false" crying bouts.....

Mama's Baby!

I have received some feedback from a lot of my friends, that why is Mama (Anshu) always behind the scene..

Well that is because Anshu is an excellent mama and she is always busy taking care of the home, the baby and me :) And so she usually does not find too much time to blog and all that..

But soon she will be doing a lot of it and will be putting up a lot of anecdotes and experiences of motherhood... Keep watching...

Shahana is an Indian classical raga.

In Carnatic Music, Shahana is janya of the 28th mela Harikambodhi. It is a vakra sampurna raga and an upanga raga characterised by soft, weighty sancharas. Emphasizing the rishabham, panchamam, dhaivatham, and shadjam lend particular beauty to this raga during alapana. Gandharam is seldom rendered flat, and should never be given prominence in an alapana. The same goes for nishadham; it is almost always rendered with gamakam. There is, however, one particular sancharam where it can be rendered without gamakam to beautiful effect; singing or playing S N D ,,, in the lower octave, as seen in Thyagaraja's composition Giripai Nelakonna, accentuates the raga's colors well. Other than that, the raga is typically rendered in accordance with the arohana and avarohana given in most music books. However, a word of caution; this raga requires many years of experience at both performing and listening to other artists to master. Though singing the raga may seem simple, perfectly rendering the many subtle, delicate phrases and gamakas calls for a more practiced hand.
